My son is 52, a disabled vet (100%) suffers from Severe OCD, mood disorder & has Schizophrenia. The VA (TriWest)has sent him to four (4) different psychologist, none of them were able to treat him successfully. I reached out to a new business called TMS solutions that had success in treating depression & now treating OCD. After 9 weeks of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation ($12,500) his symptoms worsen. I learn of a Therapist that had served in the Military & had been very successful in treating Hundreds of vets with Mental conditions, PTSD, etc., Upon our first appointment my son & I very happy to have selected her. She is very intelligent, extremely well organized , tactful in her lessons and very patient. We have also communicated thru teletherapy (due to covid-19) . My son has improved noticeably after only a few visits. I would strongly recommend her for any type of treatment she teaches. She did significantly better than the $12,500 TMS stimulation machine.

Kira helped me learn more about my anger. I learned to identify what was triggering my anger, and it took a while, but I began to be able to look into the root of my anger. I learned to look at situations from different perspectives. I think the real testimonial is the difference my wife noticed.

I was nervous when I first started therapy. It's not easy to be vulnerable and open up, but when I first started working with Kira, I felt comfortable. She makes it easy. I learned about how trauma impacts not only the brain, but the body. She provided a space for me to heal. The compassionate therapeutic environment made healing possible.

We have recently collaborated caring for a veteran and her work with this veteran has been fantastic. We both started seeing him around the same time. When the veteran started trauma-focused therapy with me, Kira went from weekly to monthly meetings with this veteran to support his treatment focus. After a few months of Prolonged Exposure (PE) effort, the veteran was struggling to make sufficient time to engage in PE and was still highly distressed. Since Kira had maintained a connection with him, transferring his care back to her was a breeze. They immediately started weekly therapy and I switched to monthly check ins with him, in support of their work. At our last check in, the veteran was doing WORLDS better than when he stopped PE. Kira had been able to engage his motivation and values in a way that unlocked his resiliency. I was so impressed by the gains he had made and how she had been able to facilitate that process with him. Most of all, the veteran expressed gratitude feeling like he had a team of providers in his corner.

I am eternally grateful to Aline Bales, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and this study, which has helped me better understand the connection between my lived experiences and my personal challenges. The opportunity to address past traumas in tandem with AUD was a vastly more effective treatment plan in acknowledging that both issues are important and deserve to be treated specifically. With the decrease in my emotional dysregulation, I am more mindful of my AUD and more easily challenge and control how much and how often I drink.
